FILMS — Why IT Chapter Two Doesn’t Work

Of the three horror movies I saw in theaters this year — UsMa, and nowIT Chapter Two — I found that all three suffered from the same core cardinal sins: poor pacing, difficulties regulating tone, and, at their root, an inability to instill a lasting fear in their viewers.

For a movie about a centuries-old eldritch creature from outer space that takes the form of a killer clown and has the ability to take the shape of whatever a person fears most, a lack of horror almost sounds impossible.

And yet here we are.
